Contactless & Remote Commerce

Background

Pandemic induced health safety procedures such as social distancing and reducing contact with surfaces has resulted in the rise of “touchless” or “contactless” technologies such as contactless cards and tickets. As people become used to these solutions during the pandemic, it is likely that they will persist after the crisis is over. Therefore, the goal of this challenge is to accelerate technologies that provide contactless solutions for ticketing, concierge, payment etc. in the context of travel, tourism and arts.

Problems

  • Economical and effective ways to reduce physical contact with surfaces that can be a health hazard

  • Opt-in mechanism that preserves customer trust, data, and privacy

  • Integration with existing systems and infrastructure

Emerging Risks

  • New variants that are resistant to current vaccines

  • Cybersecurity risks

Communities Affected

  • All public venues (particularly large venues) including arenas, theaters, museums, and attractions.

  • Transportation providers including trains, planes, cruises, transit.

  • Restaurants, cafes, markets etc.

Potential Impact

  • Government mandated shutdowns can jeopardize revenue

  • Spread of the virus through contact
